Valarie Allman will make an early step in her bid for a fifth successive Wanda Diamond League title when she lines up in the women's discus at the second meeting of the season in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 3.
Olympic champion in 2021 and 2024, Allman has dominated the Diamond League in recent years with four back-to-back titles and 13 individual victories.
Another triumph in 2025 would see her equal shot put legend Valerie Adams' tally of five Diamond Trophies, making her the joint-second most successful athlete in the series' history behind Colombian triple jumper Caterine Ibargüen and Croatian discus rival Sandra Elkasevic.
The American star has good memories of China from the start of her successful title bid last season, when she claimed back-to-back wins in Xiamen and Suzhou, including a Xiamen meeting record of 69.80m.
The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27th and 28th August 2025.
