2019 Diamond League 100m champion Dina Asher-Smith will race in the 100m as athletics returns to the London Stadium on Sunday 23 July 2023.
The 2019 world 200m champion has produced stellar performances at the London Stadium over the last 11 years, setting a then British record of 10.99 at the 2015 edition of the event. Since then, the 27-year-old has won a hatful of medals at the Olympic Games, World and European Championships and Commonwealth Games.
The two-time Olympic relay bronze medallist will compete at the venue for the first time since her title-winning season in 2019 when she finished second from Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (JAM).
With the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary taking place just a few weeks after the event in London, this race will be a key milestone in her preparations to achieve further success on the global stage.
On returning to compete at the London Stadium, Asher-Smith said, “To be back competing in the London Stadium will be very special, and I cannot wait to race in front of the amazing home crowd. It is always great to compete on this stage in the UK, and after four years away from the stadium, all the athletes are really looking forward to putting on a show for the fans on the 23 July.
“I have some fantastic memories in the stadium, so it will be amazing to hopefully add more to those in July. With the event only a few weeks before Budapest, it will also be a key race in my preparation, so expect a really exciting race. You will not want to miss it.”
