Newly crowned European champions Femke Bol and Yaroslava Mahuchikh have begun to map out their path to another global title this season by confirming their presence at the 11th meeting of the season in Lausanne on August 22nd.
Having both successfully defended their European titles at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome this week, Dutch hurdler Bol and Ukrainian high jumper Mahuchikh can now turn their attention to the remaining two major titles on offer this summer: Olympic gold in Paris and the Wanda Diamond League title in Brussels in mid-September.
Bol clocked a championship record of 52.49 in Rome, building on an impressive victory in Stockholm at her first Diamond League appearance of the 2024 season at the beginning of this month.
As well as aiming for her first ever Olympic title in Paris, the Dutch star will be out to make it four Diamond League titles on the bounce at the series final in Brussels later this season.
Lausanne will be her first appearance back on the circuit after the Olympics, and a key stage in her bid to qualify for the final.
The same goes for Mahuchikh, who claimed her second successive European title with a winning jump of 2.01m in Rome.
The Ukrainian star, who has won the Diamond Trophy in each of the last two seasons, will resume her rivalry with Australia's Nicola Olyslagers at Athletissima.
The two women have gone head to head at numerous Diamond League meetings in recent years, with Mahuchikh winning their last two battles in Stockholm and at last year's final in Eugene.
Fellow Ukrainian Iryna Gerashchenko is also set to compete in Lausanne, meaning two of the three medal winners from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 will be in action at the Stade de la Pontaise.
The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on 13th-14th September.
