Wanda Diamond League 400m hurdles champion Femke Bol will go head to head with world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in a clash of the titans at the penultimate meeting meeting of the season in Brussels on September 8th.
Bol and McLaughlin-Levrone have dominated the women's 400m hurdles in recent years, with the American taking the world and Olympic titles and breaking the world record on several occasions, and the Dutchwoman dominating the Diamond League circuit.
Bol has already secured qualification with a glistening campaign so far which as seen her take four wins, break four meeting records and set a new Diamond League record of 51.45, as well as extend her winning streak on the circuit to 18 competitions.
McLaughlin-Levrone has focused on the 400m flat this year, but will return to her usual discipline in Brussels as she looks to claim a place in the series final and a shot at regaining the title she last won in 2019.
The Allianz Memorial Van Damme will be the final series meeting of the 2023 Diamond League season, and the last chance for the world's best athletes to pick up points as they bid to qualify for the final in Eugene.
US sprinter Erriyon Knighton is also well on course for a place in the men's 200m final after securing mid-season victories in Florence and Oslo. The 19-year-old has good memories of Brussels, having claimed his first ever Diamond League victory there in September last year.
2022 high jump world champion Eleanor Patterson still has some work to do if she is to lock down her ticket to Eugene, having picked up just five points so far with a single, fourth-placed finish in Monaco last month. Currently ninth in the women's high jump standings, the Australian will know that she needs a big performance in Belgium, where she goes up against the likes of reigning champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 14 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 13 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene on 16th-17th September.
