Reigning Wanda Diamond League champions Chase Jackson and Matthew Denny will continue their title defences in the women's discus and men's shot put in Marrakech next Sunday, as the world's best throwers descend on Morocco for the fourth meeting of the 2024 season.
Jackson (previously Chase Ealey) has dominated the women's shot put in recent seasons, winning seven of a possible ten Diamond League meetings in the last two years and claiming back-to-back world and Diamond League titles in 2022 and 2023.
In 2022, she achieved a clean sweep of the Diamond League season, winning all five meetings on the road to her first ever series title. Last year, she required a late surge, securing qualification with victory in Zurich before defending her Diamond Trophy on home soil in Eugene.
This season, Jackson has started strongly, finishing third at the season opener in Xiamen before claiming her first victory of the season in Suzhou a week later. In Marrakech, she will go up against familiar rivals including Canada's Sarah Mitton and compatriot and 2021 Diamond League champion Maggie Ewen.
Denny was one of the surprise winners at last year's Wanda Diamond League final in Eugene, the Australian throwing a national record of 68.43m to inflict a shock defeat on reigning champion Kristjan Ceh and Olympic champion Daniel Stahl.
Marrakech will be his first chance to win points as he bids to defend his title this year, but he faces a tough field which includes Ceh, Stahl and new world record holder Mykolas Alekna.
The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on 13th-14th September.
