Swedish pole vault star Mondo Duplantis and US hurdles ace Grant Holloway will join a growing list of track and field superstars who will compete at the Wanda Diamond League season opener in Xiamen, China on April 26th.
Olympic champions Duplantis and Holloway are the latest additions to a star-studded list of headliners from a wide range of athletics disciplines, which already includes Botswana's 200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo and Ukraine's high jump world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
Duplantis has fond memories of Xiamen, having broken the pole vault world record with a sensational jump of 6.24m at last year's season opener. It was the earliest world record ever to be broken in a Diamond League season and the first of three for the Swedish star in 2024, as he followed up with 6.25m at the Olympics and 6.26m at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Silesia.
With four series titles under his belt, the reigning Diamond League champion will want to get off to a winning start as he sets his sights on a fifth straight crown in 2025.
110m hurdles star Holloway also enjoyed a stellar season in 2024, claiming Diamond League victories in Eugene, Monaco, Silesia and Zurich and claiming his first ever Olympic gold medal in Paris.
As he looks to regain the title he last won in 2022, Holloway will also be eyeing a first ever win in Xiamen, having finished third in his only previous appearance at the Chinese meeting back in 2023.
The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27th and 28th August 2025.
As the only series which consistently unites the world's best across the full breadth of athletics disciplines, this year's Diamond League also provides the perfect chance for athletes to cut their teeth ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.
