Swedish pole vault star Mondo Duplantis defended his title at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Saturday, despite narrowly missing out on another world record of 6.23m.
Duplantis finished on 6.05m fter failing to break what would have been the seventh world record of his career at 6.23m, but he walked away with gold and a second world title nonetheless.
The reigning Wanda Diamond League champion has been chasing the record throughout this year's Diamond League campaign, with attempts in Stockholm and Silesia earlier this summer.
His four Diamond League wins this season mean that he is already qualified for the series final in Eugene on September 16-17th, where he will compete for a third successive Diamond League title.
Fellow Diamond League star Faith Kipyegon also made history in Budapest on Saturday, when she became the first woman ever to win the 1500m and 5000m world titles at one championships.
Kipyegon, who has broken three world records on the Diamond League circuit this year, clocked 14:53.88 to win gold ahead of Dutch rival Sifan Hassan and add another title to what is becoming a fairytale season for the Kenyan.
100m champions Noah Lyles and Sha'Carri Richardson also added another gold medal to their tallies as the USA took victories in the men's and women's 4x100m relay, while Diamond League champions Lyles and Shericka Jackson claimed the individual 200m titles on Friday.
The World Athletics Championships conclude on Sunday, before athletes return to Wanda Diamond League action at Weltklasse Zurich on Thursday. The Swiss meeting is the first of three remaining chances to earn points as athletes bid to qualify for the series final in Eugene and a shot at the Diamond Trophy.
