Mondo Duplantis will return to his home meeting in Stockholm on June 2nd as he continues to chase a ninth world record and a fourth successive Wanda Diamond League title in 2024.
Duplantis started his season with a bang when he broke the world record for the eighth time with 6.24m at the Wanda Diamond League season opener in Xiamen last month.
He will be hoping for a similar performance in front of his home crowd at BAUHAUS-Galan, as he builds up to defend his Olympic title at Paris 2024 later this summer.
The 24-year-old often delivers his very best performances at his home meeting. In 2021, he set what was then a new Diamond League record and outdoor world best of 6.16m. Last season, he battled through miserable weather conditions to attempt the world record, despite the pole vault starting an hour later than scheduled due to heavy rain.
"My best results always come in Stockholm…as long as the weather's okay" Duplantis said in an interview with the Wanda Diamond League website ahead of this season.
"When I'm at Stockholm Stadium and I'm on the track there and we're competing at the Diamond League meet, it almost feels like I have to defend the turf. That just ups my game and fills me with adrenaline. It’s kind of like a mini-championship in a way."
This year, Duplantis will face a familiar field of rivals in Stockholm, with former world champion Sam Kendricks and World Championships medallists Chris Nilsen and John Ernest Obiena also on the entry list.
The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on 13th-14th September.
