Wanda Diamond League champion Mondo Duplantis will be hoping to pick up his ninth meeting record in the men's pole vault when he hits the runway at Herculis EBS Monaco on July 23rd.
Duplantis is the first global superstar to confirm his participation at this year's Monaco Diamond League, which will be the tenth stage on the Road to the Final, and he will be out to make history at the Stade Louis II.
“I'm looking forward to coming back to the Herculis meeting in Monaco on 21 July”, explains Mondo Duplantis. “I know that the meeting record is 6.02m. We will see if I can do better. Monaco is an ideal place to jump high, especially thanks to the Mediterranean weather, which puts us in the best possible position.”
The reigning Olympic and world champion currently holds the meeting record at eight of the 14 Wanda Diamond League meetings, with Monaco one of the few which has eluded him so far.
The Swedish superstar finished second on his first appearance at Herculis in 2019, before claiming his first victory there with a six-metre effort a year later. This year, he will aim to go one better and beat Piotr Lisek's record of 6.02m.
Having successfully defended his Diamond Trophy in 2022, the 23-year-old is the firm favourite to take the title to and make it three in a row this season. His year got off to the best possible start when he broke his own world record with 6.22m in Clermont-Ferrand in February.
Duplantis is also set to compete in Silesia and Stockholm as he battles for a place in the Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene on september 16-17th.
