Pole vault superstar Mondo Duplantis will kick off his 2024 Wanda Diamond League campaign with a Chinese double bill in Xiamen and Suzhou, as he aims to pick up a fourth successive series title this year.
The reigning Diamond League champion will jump at the season opener in Xiamen on April 20th before heading to the Shanghai/Suzhou meeting a week later.
"I always wanted to compete in China and now it will finally happen. I really look forward to it and hope to see a big crowd!” said the 24-year-old.
Duplantis heads into the Diamond League season in title-winning form, having picked up a second successive gold medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow last weekend.
The Swedish star is also the reigning world champion outdoors and is also aiming to defend his Olympic title in Paris later this year. He has broken the pole vault world record seven times in his young career, most recently with a 6.23m winning jump at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene last September.
The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on 13th-14th September.
The early-season meetings in Xiamen and Shanghai/Suzhou will see him and other athletics heavyweights offer the first glimpse of their Olympic-year form, with more star-studded fields to be released in the coming weeks.
