The track action at the Olympic Games in Paris came to a close on Saturday, with several Wanda Diamond League champions among the outstanding performers.
Faith Kipyegon lived up to her status as favourite in the women's 1500m, claiming her third Olympic title with victory over Australia's Jessica Hull and Britain's Georgia Bell.
Just over a month after she broke the world record at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Paris, the Kenyan star raced to an Olympic record of 3:51.29 at the Stade de France.
There was more joy for Kenya in the men's 800m, where a much anticipated race ended with victory for reigning Diamond League champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
In a race where all the top four went under 1:42, Wanyonyi ran a personal best of 1:41.19 to beat Canada's Marco Arop and Diamond League standings leader Djamel Sedjati of Algeria to gold.
Elsewhere, Jakob Ingebrigtsen bounced back from his disappointment in the 1500m to claim gold in the men's 5000m. The Norwegian star, who won the Diamond Trophy in both distances last season, ran a season's best of 13:13.66.
In the women's javelin, Haruka Kitaguchi threw a season's best of 65.80 to add Olympic gold to the world and Diamond League titles she won last season, while in the men's high jump, New Zealand's Hamish Kerr converted his brilliant Diamond League form into Olympic glory as eh equalled the Oceanian record with 2.36m.
The Wanda Diamond League resumes in Lausanne on August 22nd, with the world's best athletes looking to secure a spot in the series final in Brussels on September 13th and 14th and a shot at the last global title of the season.
