US sprint hurdles superstar Grant Holloway will be out to get more early points on the board on the Road to the Final when he lines up at the second Wanda Diamond League meeting of the season in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 3.
Already confirmed for the season opener in Xiamen on April 26, Holloway now joins a growing list of superstars at the second Chinese meeting a week later.
The 27-year-old is the greatest sprinter of his generation, having added Olympic gold to his three world titles in Paris last year. With a personal best of 12.81, he remains just 0.01 seconds short of the world record set by fellow American Aries Merritt at the Diamond League Final in Brussels back in 2012.
As well as continuing his quest for that record, Holloway will also be hoping to win the Diamond Trophy for only the second time in his career in 2025.
Diamond League champion in 2022, he missed out on the title in both of the past two seasons despite racking up a total of seven victories in the series over the same period.
The upcoming Diamond League season will be a chance to set the record straight, while also preparing Holloway for his tilt at a fourth successive world title at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo later this year.
"I am so excited that Shanghai is back on the calendar since last year and I can’t wait to experience the crowds and the roar of the stadium as we battle out who’s fastest over the hurdles!" he said.
Holloway will be joined by three world record holders in Shanghai/Keqiao, with Mondo Duplantis (pole vault), Yaroslava Mahuchikh (high jump) and Karsten Warholm (400m hurdles) all confirmed to compete at the Chinese meeting.
The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27th and 28th August 2025.
