Scandinavian stars Mondo Duplantis and Jakob Ingebrigtsen will both be in action at the eighth leg of the Wanda Diamond League in Silesia on July 16th, as they look to defend their Diamond League titles in the 1500m and pole vault respectively.
Swedish star Duplantis, 23, set a meeting record of 6.10m at the Silesia Stadium last season en route to a second successive Diamond Trophy in the men's pole vault. Having already broken his own world record in early 2023, he will return to Poland this year hoping to go one better this year.
Norway's Ingebrigtsen, meanwhile, will make his debut at the Silesia Diamond League in 2023 as he too looks to defend the title he won for the first time last year in the men's 1500m.
Olympic champion in the 1500m, Ingebrigtsen picked up two gold medals at the European Indoor Championships in March and is firm favourite for both the world and Diamond League titles this year.
"We have heard on multiple occasions of his dream to set a world outdoor record. The current mark is an old one, set 25 years ago. Jakob is just over two seconds away from Hicham El Guerrouj's record (3:26.00). Today, the question is not so much whether he can do it, but when it will happen," Silesia meeting director Piotr MaĆachowski said.
Another opportunity for Ingebrigtsen to pick up valuable points on his road to the Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene may come at his home meeting in Oslo in June. Last year, he became the first Norwegian to win the meeting's iconic Dream Mile, which will be held as a women's event in 2023.
