US hurdles star Grant Holloway and Norwegian distance ace Jakob Ingebrigtsen will both face tough post-Olympic tests as they resume their Wanda Diamond League campaigns in Lausanne on August 22nd.
Double Diamond League champion Ingebrigtsen is out to defend his 1500m and 5000m titles this year, having become one of the few athletes ever to win two Diamond Trophies in a single season at the final in Eugene last year.
Victories in Oslo and Monaco mean that Ingebrigtsen has already secured qualification to this year's final in Brussels (September 13th-14th), but he will still want to prove his status as title favourite against a field which includes four-time Diamond League champion Timothy Cheruiyot of Kenya and rising French star Azzedine Habz.
If his recent European record in Monaco is anything to go by, Ingebrigtsen is already in title-winning form as he sets his sights on the Paris Olympics and the business end of the Diamond League season.
The Norwegian will not be the only big name on the track in Lausanne, with a star-studded field also expected in the men's 110m hurdles.
World champion Grant Holloway is out to regain the Diamond League title he lost to Jamaican rival Hansle Parchment last year, and he will face the Jamaican for the second time this year after beating him at the Eugene Diamond League earlier this season.
Despite victories in Eugene and Monaco, Holloway is yet to secure qualification for the final in an event which has proved to be remarkably open in the Diamond League this season.
Fellow American Daniel Roberts currently leads the standings thanks to his opening wins in Xiamen and Suzhou, and he will be hoping to add a third when he faces Holloway and Parchment in Lausanne.
Rising star Sasha Zhoya will also run at Athletissima, after he claimed his first ever Diamond League win on home soil in Paris earlier this month. American Freddie Crittenden and Italian Lorenzo Simonelli, meanwhile, will also be hoping to muscle in on the top eight spots with a strong showing in Lausanne.
The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on 13th-14th September.
