Kenyan 1500m legend Faith Kipyegon and Norway's 400m hurdles star Karsten Warholm took their brilliant Wanda Diamond League form onto the World Championships stage in Budapest this week.
Kipyegon and Warholm had been the standout stars of the Wanda Diamond League season so far, with the Kenyan breaking three world records and the Norwegian twice breaking his own Diamond League record.
Though neither managed to break a record in Budapest, they both cruised to gold in their respective disciplines.
Warholm clocked 46.89 to beat Kyron McMaster and Rai Benajmin to gold in the 400m hurdles, reclaiming the title he lost to Alison Dos Santos in Eugene last year.
Kipyegon defended her world title with 3:54.87 in the 1500m, coming in ahead of Ethiopia's Diribe Welteji and the Netherlands' Sifan Hassan.
Both will be hoping to add another Diamond Trophy to their cabinet when they head to the series final in Eugene next month.
There were also gold medals for several other reigning Wanda Diamond League champions in Budapest this week.
Australia's Nina Kennedy and the USA's Katie Moon shared the gold medal in the pole vault, both clearing 4.95m.
Gianmarco Tamberi won the men's high jump, clearing a world leading 2.36m to beat Juvaughn Harrison on countback in a repeat of last year's battle in the Diamond League Final.
Marileidy Paulino swept to gold in the women's 400m, while Soufiane El Bakkali confirmed his status as king of the 3000m steeplechase with a win over world record holder Lamecha Girma.
The World Athletics Championships continue in Budapest this Thursday, with Wanda Diamond League 400m hurdles champion Femke Bol among the stars in action.
The Wanda Diamond League resumes next week in Zurich, for the first of three remaining series meetings before the final in Eugene on September 16-17th.
