Five-time Wanda Diamond League champion and six-time world champion Noah Lyles will continue his quest to become the greatest Diamond League athlete in history when he headlines the men's 100m in London on July 20th.
American sprint star Lyles is just two titles away from equalling Renaud Lavillenie and Christian Taylor's shared record of seven career Diamond Trophies, and will be hoping to move a step closer to that mark this summer.
Lyles won a hattrick of gold medals at last year’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest, making it a clean sweep in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, and he will compete in London on the eve of the Opening Ceremony for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.
The 2024 edition of the London Athletics Meet will be an unmissable event in the sporting calendar as it acts as the last major competition before the Olympic Games – just six days before the Opening Ceremony - and a perfect opportunity for fans to wish the world’s best athletes’ good luck for Paris 2024.
Lyles returns to the London Stadium after running one of the quickest 200m time in history at the event last year when he clocked 19.47. The time was the quickest in 2023 and set him up for his trio of world titles in Budapest just one month later.
Lyles said, ““Last year was my first time competing in London and to run such a fast time was a great experience. The atmosphere in the London Stadium was incredible and I could feel the energy coming from the crowd. I always want to give something special to all those who had come out to see us, and I look forward to doing that at this year’s Diamond League event in July.”
The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on 13th-14th September.
