In exactly one month, the 2023 Wanda Diamond League will get underway at the Qatar Sports Club in Doha, firing the starting gun on a season which will encompass four continents, 13 countries and the most prestigious one-day meetings in global track and field athletics.
So with 30 days to go, here's everything you need to know about the season opener in Doha.
When and where is the Wanda Diamond League Doha?
As in almost all previous years since the series' inauguration back in 2010, this Wanda Diamond League season will kick off at the Qatar Sports Club in Doha. The meeting will take place on May 5th, with the pre-programme action starting at 18:00 local time (GMT+3).
What is at stake?
The Doha Meeting is the first of 14 meetings in this year's Wanda Diamond League, the most prestigious one-day series in global athletics. Athletes compete for points in their chosen discipline at 13 different meetings between May and September, with the most successful qualifying for the Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene on September 16-17th and a shot at the Diamond Trophy. The Doha Meeting will be the first opportunity for the world's biggest stars to get early points on the board in their season-long battle to be crowned Wanda Diamond League champion.
Who will be there?
A number of major names have already confirmed their attendance at the season opener in Doha. Kenyan middle-distance star Faith Kipyegon will launch her defence of the Wanda Diamond League title in the women's 1500m, while fellow Diamond Trophy holder Nina Kennedy will face a tough test with the likes of Olympic champion Katie Moon and US star Sandi Morris in the women's pole vault. The home crowd will also have some local heroes to cheer, as Abderrahman Samba and Mutaz Essa Barshim line up in the 400m hurdles and high jump respectively. Other headline events include the men's 200m and the women's 100m.
