Reigning Wanda Diamond League champion Valarie Allman will face her long-time rival and six-time Diamond Trophy winner Sandra Perkovic in a clash of the titans in the women's discus in Oslo on June 15th.
USA star Allman has been the dominant force in the women's discus in recent years, winning her second successive Diamond Trophy in Zurich last year. The 2021 Olympic champion won four out five Diamond League meetings last season and will be the favourite to take the title once again in 2023.
Yet Perkovic remains a force to be reckoned with, having taken the World Championships silver medal ahead of Allman last year. The Croatian also has good memories of Oslo, having won there last year to inflict a first and only Diamond League defeat of 2022 on Allman.
Perkovic is the joint most successful female athlete in Diamond League history alongside New Zealand shot put legend Valerie Adams, with six title wins between 2012 and 2017. A seventh title in 2023 would see her equal the series record held by French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie and US triple jumper Christian Taylor.
There is plenty of quality in the rest of the field as well, with every single one of the current top six set to compete in Oslo. Olympic silver medallist Kristin Prudenz and her fellow German Claudine Vita will be joined by the Netherlands' Jordine van Klinken and Portugal's Liliana Ca.
