The Wanda Diamond League Final takes place outside of Europe for the first time ever this weekend, with the world's best athletes descending on Eugene to battle it out for the Diamond Trophy at the Prefontaine Classic.
This may be Eugene's first final, but the city has delivered some unforgettable Diamond League moments over the last 13 years. With a day to go until the season finale, here are six of the best from Hayward Field.
2010 - Oliver goes under 13 seconds
America's own David Oliver made headlines at the very first Diamond League meeting back in 2010, clocking a meeting record of 12.90 in the 110m hurdles. The time was a world lead, a personal best and just 0.3 seconds off the then world record of 12.87. It was his compatriot Aries Merritt who would later break that mark with 12.80 at the Diamond League Final in Brussels in 2012.
2013 - Barshim breaks Asian record
Qatari high jump star Mutaz Essa Barshim is still tearing it up on the Diamond League circuit and is hoping to pick up a fifth title in Eugene this weekend. Back in 2013, he was still a bright young talent when he bounced over 2.40m to set a new Asian record. A year later, he would come within two centimetres of the world record at the Diamond League Final in Brussels.
2016 - Harrison clocks series record
2016 was a turbulent year for Keni Harrison, who missed out on Olympic qualification despite dominating the women's 100m hurdles in the Diamond League. Her series record of 12.24 in Eugene was one of several standout performances in a brilliant run of form which culminated with a world record of 12.20 in London later that summer.
2017 - Taylor pushes the boundaries
US triple jumper Christian Taylor is one of only two athletes who have won the Diamond Trophy seven times, making him the series' joint record champion alongside Renaud Lavillenie. The sixth of his seven titles came in 2017, in a campaign which started with an astonishing series record of 18.11m in Eugene.
2021 - Crouser throws 23.15m
Ryan Crouser had to wait for a long time for his first Diamond League title, but there was no stopping him in 2021 as he rampaged to three victories on his way to the Diamond Trophy in the second half of the season. The first of them came on home soil in Eugene, where he threw a huge 23.15m to set a new Diamond League record.
2021 - Thompson-Herah makes history
2021 was a vintage year at the Prefontaine Classic, with Elaine Thompson-Herah also setting a new Diamond League record in the women's 100m. The Jamaican's 10.54 was the first time in years that anyone had got close to Florence Griffith-Joyner's world record, and it is still the second fastest time ever.
