Allyson Felix will run 200 metres, the event she won the last time she was in Stockholm in 2010. The previous year she set the current stadium record of 21.88. She also holds the record for double that distance, 400m, with a time of 49.70 from DN Galan 2007.
Allyson commented, ”It will be great to be in Stockholm again. I have really good memories of Stockholm Olympic Stadium and, of course the diamonds I won for the two stadium records I broke provide an extra souvenir. The atmosphere there is always special and I’m hoping for the same support from the crowd which I’ve had in the past.”
The 28-year-old American has won a total of four Olympic gold medals and eight World Championship gold. Her best 200m time, 21.69, is the fourth fastest ever in the world. She is currently fifth on this year’s world list with 22.34.
DN Galan’s meeting director, Anders Tallgren, expressed his pleasure at Allyson’s participation. ”We are extremely proud that Allyson Felix has chosen to return to Stockholm and DN Galan. She is one of the most successful athletes of the past decade and has a strong connection to our Stadium. It will be an exciting race with Allyson, our young Swedish hope, Irene Ekelund, together with the rest of the elite in the field.”
