The Stockholm public will also be happy to welcome back a familiar star in New Zealand’s Valerie Adams. She has won everything possible in international shot putting including dominating her event in the Swedish capital for many years. This year, in which the women’s shot is an IAAF Diamond League event, Valerie will be challenged by world leader, Christina Schwanitz, from Germany and American star, Michelle Carter.
The Big Shot will be organized in partnership with BAUHAUS and the City of Stockholm. In addition to the IAAF Diamond League women’s event, there will be a national youth and a senior men’s competition and ’have-a-go’ sessions for children, young people and adults.
Jan Kowalski, Chairman of Stadionklubbarna, which organises the Stockholm IAAF Diamond League is grateful to the event’s title sponsor BAUHAUS for enabling an expansion of the event:
It is great that we are able to bring back the Big Shot. For the first time in Stadionklubbarna’s history we have a week in Stockholm full of athletics activities, starting in Kungsträdgården on Monday 27 July with two days of children’s athletics, followed by Big Shot and then moving to the Olympic Stadium for the IAAF Diamond League meeting, a 1000m fun run and finishing with a weekend of international youth competition.
