Origin
The Diamond Trophy was designed by Carlo Mutschler of the Swiss jeweller Beyer Chronometrie AG. All the trophies are manually crafted every year in the atelier, which has a 250 year history of producing trophies, watches and jewellery. It would take 100 days for one person to manufacture the trophies alone, so intricate is the design.

Symbolism
The Diamond Trophy consists of three distinct elements, each highlighting a facet of athletics, and the athlete's journey to the top of the sport.
The base of solid, black granite represents the athletes' strength but also the rocky road to success.
The main body sports three ovals in the shape of a stadium athletics track, each one filled with an original track surface produced by the Swiss company Conica. It represents the athletes' speed as well as the unique atmosphere within a stadium. It also provides a good handle for the winners to hold the trophy.
At the crown of the trophy is the pièce de resistance: the diamond itself. Cut from glass to shine like a true diamond, it represents the triumphant athlete: a shining beacon of brilliant performance.
