The series so far: History made in Monaco and London

Jakob Ingebrigtsen continued his fine run of form in Lausanne with an impressive 3:28.72 in the men's 1500m, one of several meeting records to fall at the sixth leg of the 2023 season.  World record holder Beatrice Chepkoech also set a new meeting record with 9:05.98 in the women's steeplechase, while Berihu Aregawi blazed to the sixth-fastest time ever in the men's 5000m, beating world record holder Joshua Cheptegei with 12:40.45. Dutch 400m hurdles star also followed up her world leading performance in Oslo with a meeting record of 52.76 at the Stade de la Pontaise. 

Mondo Duplantis was the headline act at the BAUHAUS-Galan meeting in Stockholm, but his start in the men's pole vault was delayed by an hour as heavy rain pounded the Swedish capital. The weather might have contributed to a handful of surprise wins, with Daryll Neita winning the women's 200m and Valarie Allman crashing out early in the women's discus. Duplantis, meanwhile, didn't disappoint the home crowd, delivering a solo performance long after the scheduled end of the meet. His valiant attempt at the world record was unsuccessful, but he still ended on an impressive 6.05m. 

Having started her Diamond League season relatively late, triple jump champion Yulimar Rojas only had one win under her belt going into Silesia, but she made another giant leap towards qualification for the final with a memorable performance in Poland. The Venezuelan cleared a world lead and meeting record of 15.13m to go top of the standings and make another statement ahead of her world title defence in Budapest. Jakob Ingebrigtsen also delighted the crowd with another European record in the 1500m, lopping another chunk off his previous record with 3:27.14. Mutaz Essa Barshim picked up his first win of the season in the men's high jump, while South African superstar Wayde Van Niekerk continued his Diamond League comeback with another comfortable win in the 400m. 

By July, it seemed that Faith Kipyegon was incapable of appearing at a Diamond League meeting without breaking a world record, and expectations were high as she arrived in Monaco to attack the women's mile. The Kenyan superstar duly delivered with a jaw-dropping 4:07.64 to smash the record Sifan Hassan had set at the same meeting four years earlier and post her third world record in 50 days. It was a performance so good it even overshadowed Karsten Warholm's second Diamond League record in the space of a month, the Norwegian clocking 46.51 to beat Alison Dos Santos in what was billed as a dress rehearsal for Budapest. 

London was the last chance for athletes to cut their teeth on the Diamond League circuit ahead of the World Championships, and there were big victories from several athletes who will be gunning for gold in Budapest. Marie-Josée Ta Lou continued her fine form with a meeting record of 10.75, while Noah Lyles did the same in the men's 200m with 19.47. The moment of the meeting once again came from Femke Bol, however, who blasted her way to a European record of 51.45 to continue her dominance in the women's 400m hurdles. It was her fourth win on the circuit this year and her third ever Diamond League record.
