The greatest Wanda Diamond League season in history came to a fitting end on Sunday as both Swedish pole vault star Mondo Duplantis and Ethiopian distance legend Gudaf Tsegay set new world records on the second day of the series final in Eugene.
Having come close to the mark at Diamond League meetings in Zurich and Brussels in recent weeks, Duplantis sailed over 6.23m at the first attempt to break the world record for the seventh time in his young career and claim a third successive Diamond Trophy.
Tsegay, meanwhile, obliterated the 5000m world record set by Faith Kipyegon at the Paris Diamond League back in June, clocking 14:00.21 to claim the title with a groundbreaking performance.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen also set a Diamond League record pf 7:23.63 in the men's 3000m, winning his second Diamond Trophy in the space of two days after his triumph in the Bowerman Mile on Saturday.
Jamaican sprint star Shericka Jackson also completed a Diamond Trophy double as she defended her 200m title with a meeting record of 21.57 just 24 hours after racing to the 100m title on the same track.
There was a surprise win for Australia's Matthew Denny in the men's discus, while 2022 champions Ivana Spanovic (long jump), Yaroslava Mahuchikh (high jump), Marileidy Paulino (400m), Valarie Allman (discus), Joe Kovacs (shot put) and Femke Bol (400m hurdles) all successfully defended their titles.
