400m world record holder Wayde Van Niekerk will make his long-awaited return to Wanda Diamond League action at the Bislett Games in Oslo on June 15th.
Six years after he last competed in athletics' premier one-day series, the South African superstar will be hoping to build on some fabulous early-season form in his first ever appearance at the Oslo Diamond League.
Van Niekerk's last Diamond League appearance came in Monaco in 2017, just a year after he broke the world record at the Olympic Games in Rio. He notched up eight victories on the Diamond League circuit between 2015 and 2017 before sustaining a career-threatening injury which forced him onto the sidelines for months.
The 30-year-old has since made a steady return to the top, reaching the Olympic semi-finals in 2021 and the World Athletics Championships finals a year later.
Van Niekerk, who has never won the Diamond Trophy, will be hoping that he can make his mark on the series this year after some impressive performances in South Africa this year.
His 44.17 in Potchefstroom on April 1 was his fastest time over one-lap since breaking the world record.
In Oslo, he will be one of two world record holders on the startlists, with Norwegian 400m hurdles star Karsten Warholm also set to appear at his home meeting.
Two-time Diamond League champion Warholm will be out to regain his crown this season after an injury in Rabat threw a spanner in the works of his title defence in 2022.
