The Wanda Diamond League meeting in Silesia has been named Sporting Event of the Year at an awards ceremony in Poland.
The Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Meeting beat other major international events to win the award, which is presented by Polish sports newspaper "Przegląd Sportowy”.
Silesia featured in the Wanda Diamond League for only the second year in a row in 2023, and delivered some of the highlights of the season just a few weeks before the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen set what was then a European record of 3:27.14 in the men’s 1500m, while Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas jumped a world-leading 15.18m in the women’s triple jump.
The event will return to the Wanda Diamond League calendar in 2024, taking place on 25th August, shortly after the Olympic Games in Paris.
