Norwegian superstar Karsten Warholm will headline the men's 400m hurdles at his home Wanda Diamond League meeting in Oslo on June 15th as he bids to reclaim the Diamond Trophy after an injury-hit season in 2022.
Reigning Olympic champion Warholm dominated the 400m hurdles from 2019 to 2021, claiming 11 victories and two titles on the circuit during an impressive run of form which also saw him win gold in Tokyo and defend his world title in Doha.
Yet in an injury-plagued season in 2022, Warholm lost both his world and Diamond League titles to Brazilian rival Alison Dos Santos. The Norwegian star will be back with a vengeance this year, and will be hoping to lay down an early marker in front of his home fans at the Bislett Games.
Warholm has great memories of the Bislett Stadium. He claimed his first ever Diamond League win there in 2017, and broke the world record for the first time on the same track in 2021.
In June, he will be up against the likes of world number two Khalifah Rosser, European Championship medallists Wilfred Happio and Rasmus Magi, and the USA's CJ Allen, who clocked an impressive 47.93 to finish second behind Rai Benjamin at the season opener in Doha on May 5th.
The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 14 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 13 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene on 16th-17th September.
