Live from the archive every single Sunday on the Wanda Diamond League YouTube channel, the WDL Classics series revisits historical Diamond League meetings with a re-live stream of the full two-hour TV broadcast. This week: Allyson Felix does the double in London.
What do Allyson Felix, Carmelita Jeter, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Caterine Ibargüen, Noah Lyles, Shericka Jackson and Jakob Ingebrigtsen all have in common?
The answer, of course, is that they are the only athletes to have won two Diamond League titles in a single season, claiming the series' iconic trophy in not one but two different disciplines.
The first athlete ever to achieve the feat was Felix, the US sprint legend storming to the 200m and 400m titles in the first ever Diamond League season back in 2010.
Felix had been steadily picking up victories in both disciplines throughout the season, winning the 200m in Paris and Stockholm and the 400m in Doha and Eugene before she arrived in London for the last meeting before the final in late August.
It was in the British capital that she sealed her extraordinary double, racing to 22.37 in the 200m on Day 1 before following up with 50.79 in the 400m on Day 2.
It was a stunning performance from the American star, and one which put her on the verge of a historic first ever Diamond League double.
Other standout performances in London included a meeting record and world lead of 12.52 in the women's 100m hurdles from Canada's Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, and a meeting record of 9.84 from Tyson Gay in the men's 100m.
