In less than three months time, the new Wanda Diamond League season will be underway, with the likes of Mondo Duplantis, Faith Kipyegon and Shericka Jackson all hoping to defend their titles in 2024.
The 15th edition of track and field's premier one-day global series will pit the world's best athletes against each other at the highest level every single week as they warm up for the Olympic Games in Paris in August.
As well as familiar faces and locations, the series will also see some changes in 2024, with new cities, a bumper calendar, and a new host for the final.
Early start
Perhaps the biggest change this season is that track and field fans will not have to wait as long for the outdoor season to get underway. The Wanda Diamond League campaign kicks off on April 20th in Xiamen, earlier than in any season since the series began in 2010. Xiamen will be the first of two meetings in China, and the start of a rapid world tour in the opening weeks of the season. In May, the series will touch down in four different continents, with meetings in Qatar, Morocco, the USA and Norway.
New locations
The second meeting of the season is scheduled to take place in Suzhou, which will host the Wanda Diamond League for the very first time on April 27th. The Chinese city is one of two new locations in this season's calendar, with the Meeting International Mohammed VI also moving from Rabat to Marrakech for one year due to stadium renovations in the Moroccan capital. The Pietro Mennea Golden Gala, which moved to Florence in 2023, will return to its usual location at Rome's Stadio Olimpico on August 30th.
Final rotation
After a brief interlude in Eugene last year, the Wanda Diamond League returns to Europe in 2024, with all 32 Diamond League champions set to be crowned in Brussels on September 13-14th. The Belgian capital last hosted the final in 2019, but this will be the first time it has been the sole host, under the new format introduced in 2021. 2024 will also start a four-year rotation in which Brussels and Zurich alternate as hosts until 2027.
