World record breaker Ryan Crouser will headline the men's shot put at the Wanda Diamond League Silesia on July 16th, as he bids to regain the Diamond Trophy in 2023.
Crouser made headlines last weekend when he smashed his own world record with an enormous throw of 23.56m at the Los Angeles Grand Prix.
Fans in Silesia will be hoping to see more record-breaking stuff from the American in July, with Crouser insisting that he can go even further this season.
“I’m really excited because it didn’t feel polished,” Crouser explained after his world record. “It felt like I had a tonne of power and I caught a big one.”
Crouser believes his new technique, which involves a larger step across the ring, can open up the possibility of even bigger throws.
“I finally saw that spread I’ve been looking for,” he said in Los Angeles. “That’s what has me the most excited.”
As well as chasing another potential world record, the American will be hoping to regain the Diamond League record, which he held for a year until Joe Kovacs' title-winning 23.23m knocked him off top spot in last year's final.
Having won his first Diamond League title in 2021, Crouser is also out to regain the Diamond Trophy from Kovacs this summer.
The Wanda Diamond League Silesia is the eighth leg of athletics' premier one-day meeting series. It comprises 14 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 13 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene on 16th-17th September.
