World record breakers return to Silesia in 2025

A year on from their pole vault and 3000m world records last August, Mondo Duplantis and Jakob Ingebrigtsen will return to Silesia leg of the Wanda Diamond League at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in 2025.

Sweden's Mondo Duplantis and Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen will both return to the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Silesia in 2025, a year after they both broke world records there last August.

Duplantis and Ingebrigtsen made track and field history at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial earlier this year, in one of the standout moments of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season.

Ingebrigtsen's clocked 7:17.55 in the men's 3000m, obliterating Daniel Komen's 28-year-old world record and delivering the perfect response to his 1500m disappointment at the Olympic Games a few weeks earlier.

Just an hour later, Duplantis cleaed 6.26m to break the pole vault world record for the third time in five months and add a centimetre to the previous record he had set at the Olympic final in Paris.

The two Scandinavian stars, who both went on to claim the Diamond Trophy in September, will be hoping for a repeat performance when they return to the Polish leg of the Road to the Final on August 19th as part of their Diamond League title defence next year.

"The summer was a great one for me, I achieved everything I dreamed of. But this is not the end. I still can and want to set new goals for myself. The chance to achieve them in places such as the Silesian Stadium is a privilege," said Duplantis.

For both men, Silesia will be another key milestone in their quest for a fifth series title in 2025 and a crucial step on the road to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field, crossing four continents and 13 different countries to reach athletics fans in all corners of the world.

The series provides a unique opportunity for athletes across the full diversity of track and field to compete at the highest level throughout the outdoor season. In 32 different disciplines, athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27th and 28th August 2025.

In each discipline, the winners at the final are awarded the iconic Diamond Trophy and crowned Wanda Diamond League champion, the sport's most prestigious global title outside the major championships. In 2025, the series will also pay out a record total of 9.24 million US dollars in prize money.
