The Wanda Diamond League
Since its launch in 2010, the Wanda Diamond League has been the elite one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field, crossing four continents and 13 different countries to reach athletics fans in all corners of the world.
The series provides a unique opportunity for athletes across the full diversity of track and field to compete at the highest level throughout the outdoor season, as they bid for the sport’s most prestigious global title outside the major championships.
Road to the Final Format
From April to September, athletes from 32 different disciplines compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final.
At each of the 14 series meetings, athletes are awarded 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 or 1 points for ranking 1st to 8th respectively. The top six in the field events, top eight for 100m-800m and the top ten for 1500m and long distance events will qualify for the Final. In each discipline, one athlete may also qualify via national or global wildcard.
In case of a tie, the athlete with the best legal performance of the season is ranked higher. In the throws and horizontal jumps, the “Final 3” format is used at all series meetings, but not at the Wanda Diamond League Final.
The Wanda Diamond League Final
The 2025 Wanda Diamond League Final will be held at Weltklasse Zurich on August 27th-28th.
In each of the 32 disciplines, athletes who have qualified via the Road to the Final compete in a winner-takes-all season finale to be crowned Wanda Diamond League champion.
Each champion is awarded the iconic Diamond Trophy and a wild card for the World Athletics Championships (certain conditions apply).
Prize money
In 2025, the series will pay out a record total of 9.24 million US dollars in prize money.
The total prize money awarded per meeting will be 500,000 USD at each of the 14 regular series meetings, and 2,24 million USD at the Wanda Diamond League Final.
The total prize money per discipline will be between 30,000 USD and 50,000 USD at the series meetings and between 60,000 USD and 100,000 USD at the Final.
Including promotional fees for top athletes, a total of around 18 million USD will be paid to athletes over the course of the series 16th season in 2025, with many more millions being invested in athlete services such as travel and transport, accommodation and medical and physio provision.
Prize money is entirely gender-equal, with exactly the same rates for male and female athletes. The 2025 increase will also apply to all 32 Diamond Disciplines, benefitting athletes across the full diversity of track and field.
